Lower output than floods (typically 800-1500 lumens) and designed to stay on all night. (3) **Smart camera floods** — combines motion-activated flood with a recording camera and app integration. Ring Floodlight, Arlo Pro Flood, Eufy SoloCam, etc. Higher price ($150-350 per unit) but valuable if you want both lighting and recording.
What Code Requires for Outdoor Circuits
Every outdoor fixture circuit must be GFCI-protected (NEC 210.8). For permanently installed floodlights, the GFCI is at the breaker (a 15A or 20A GFCI breaker) feeding the circuit. For motion-sensor floods replacing existing fixtures, the upstream GFCI must be verified — sometimes the existing porch light is on a non-GFCI circuit that was installed before code required it, and adding a motion sensor doesn’t automatically fix that.

Cold-Weather Considerations
