Mendota Heights electrician — 18 min from our Saint Paul Park HQ
Mendota Heights sits beside historic Mendota, where the Minnesota and Mississippi meet — but the city itself is mostly a postwar creation. Organized as a township in 1858 and dairy and truck-farm country for a century, it incorporated in 1956 and filled in through the second half of the 1900s with larger lots and higher-end homes than most of its neighbors.
A newer suburb on older ground
Despite its place next to one of Minnesota's oldest settlements, Mendota Heights' housing is largely mid-to-late 20th century — bigger homes on bigger lots, with the wiring of their build years.
Early suburban homes ('50s–'60s)
The first wave after incorporation, when farmland gave way to neighborhoods. These homes often started on 60–100A service, and some still hold Federal Pacific or Zinsco panels that today's electricians replace on sight.
The big growth years ('70s–'80s)
Most of the city's homes date here — larger custom houses, many with aluminum branch wiring from the '70s and 100–200A service. The panels strain when an EV charger and central AC run at once.
Newer and estate homes ('90s–today)
Built 200A or more from the start, with grounded wiring throughout. Even so, the larger homes here load up fast with EV chargers, hot tubs, heat pumps, and battery systems competing for breaker space.
Mendota Heights is a quick trip up the river for us, and the larger homes here often pack in more electrical demand than their panels were planned for. We usually have a sense of what we'll find before we lift the cover.
