Bayport electrician — 26 min from our Saint Paul Park HQ

Bayport began as three 1856 riverfront settlements — Baytown, Bangor, and Middletown — on the St. Croix, merged into the village of South Stillwater in 1881 and renamed Bayport in 1922. Its early economy ran on St. Croix lumber, sawmills, and steamboat building. In 1913 the Andersen Corporation built the window factory that still anchors the city and the riverfront, and Bayport remains a tight company town of historic homes and newer riverside builds.

A St. Croix company town, old core to new builds

Bayport’s housing comes in two distinct waves — a historic company-town core near the river and the Andersen plant, and a newer band of modern construction. The wiring in each is a generation apart.

Company-town & riverfront homes (pre-1950)

The older homes near downtown, Lakeside Park, and the Andersen plant were built for mill and factory families. Many still hide knob-and-tube remnants, two-prong outlets, and early fuse panels behind updated finishes.

Postwar homes (1950s–60s)

The ramblers and Cape Cods that filled in after the war often still run 60–100A service, and some carry Federal Pacific or Zinsco panels — brands we replace on sight because they don’t trip reliably under fault.

Modern infill & new construction (2000s–today)

Bayport’s newer riverside and infill homes were wired 200A from the start. Here the question is headroom — EV chargers, heat pumps, hot tubs, and batteries can fill even a modern panel faster than owners expect.

Bayport’s a quick run up the river from our Saint Paul Park shop, and we know its mix — century company-town homes and brand-new builds, sometimes on the same block.

Bayport electrical FAQ

We own an older home near the Andersen plant. What wiring should we expect?
Bayport’s pre-1950 company-town homes often hide knob-and-tube remnants, two-prong outlets, and early fuse panels behind their finishes. We’ll map what’s there before you renovate. Call 651-418-1476.
Our postwar Bayport rambler — should the panel concern us?
Possibly. Many 1950s–60s homes still have 60–100A service, and some carry Federal Pacific or Zinsco panels we’d recommend replacing. We can tell you quickly whether yours needs attention or is fine for now.
We’re in a newer Bayport home. Do we need to worry?
Your panel is likely modern 200A, so you’re in good shape — but EV chargers, heat pumps, hot tubs, and batteries add up. If you’re planning any of those, we’ll confirm you have the capacity first.
Can you handle older cloth and two-prong wiring during a remodel?
Yes. Rewires, added grounds, and panel swaps in Bayport’s historic homes are routine for us — we’ll bring the work up to code without tearing the house apart.
Who is Bayport’s electric utility, and are there rebates?
Bayport is served by Xcel Energy, whose Allen S. King plant is right in town. Xcel runs rebates on EV chargers, heat pumps, and efficiency upgrades that change yearly — we’ll flag what applies when we quote.
Do you cover all of Bayport, and how do we schedule?
We cover all of Bayport, riverfront to the newer west-side homes. Call or text 651-418-1476 for a free in-home quote — we’re up your way regularly.
