Company: Three Rivers Electric — iSolar's Electrical Contracting Division · Location: Twin Cities Metro (primarily Dakota, Washington & Ramsey counties) · Pay: $18–$25 / hour (depending on experience) · Job type: Full-time · Work location: On the road
About us
Three Rivers Electric is the electrical contracting division of iSolar, a family-owned Minnesota solar and electrical contractor based in Saint Paul Park (Electrical Contracting License #EA761814). We handle full residential electrical services, EV chargers, and small commercial electrical services in and around the Twin Cities — primarily Dakota, Washington, and Ramsey counties. We hold a perfect 5.0 rating on Google — and we intend to keep it. If you want to learn the trade from electricians who do clean, fast work and treat every customer like a neighbor, you'll fit right in.
Learn the trade the right way
This is a true learning role. You'll work side-by-side with our journeyman and lead electricians every day — on real residential service calls, EV charger installs, panel upgrades, and solar-related electrical work. We'll teach you the craft, the code, and the customer service that earns five-star reviews. Bring a great attitude and a willingness to learn; we'll handle the rest.
Customer service comes first
Our reputation is built on how we treat people, and a 5.0 rating doesn't happen by accident. Even as an apprentice, you're the face of the company on every job: show up on time, be polite and professional, keep the work area clean, and leave every homeowner glad they called us.
What you'll do (under supervision)
- Assist journeyman electricians on residential service, troubleshooting, and repair calls across the Twin Cities metro
- Help with EV charger installations, panel upgrades, and service changes
- Pull wire, bend and install conduit, route cabling, and install receptacles, fixtures, and devices
- Learn to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and layout plans
- Assist with rough-ins, terminations, final connections, and basic troubleshooting
- Learn code-compliant work to NEC and Minnesota standards — work that passes inspection
- Keep job sites clean, organized, and safe; load/unload materials and help with setup and tear-down
- Track tools and materials, and log time and job codes accurately
- Follow all safety protocols — OSHA, lockout/tagout, and PPE — and participate in safety meetings and training
How you'll grow
- A mapped apprenticeship path with clear competency milestones — conduit bending, cable pulling, terminations, troubleshooting, and solar installation
- Regular performance reviews with goals on technical skill, safety, and reliability
- Support for trade school, certification classes, and licensing exams (professional development assistance)
- More responsibility as soon as you're ready for it — we promote from within
What we're looking for
- Active Minnesota Unlicensed Individual Registration with the MN Department of Labor and Industry — or willingness to register before your start date (we'll point you to the process)
- Enrolled in (or willing to enroll in) an electrical apprenticeship program or trade school
- Coachable and eager to learn — you ask questions, take feedback, and apply corrections
- Reliable and punctual — you show up on time, every time, ready to work
- Friendly and professional with customers, coworkers, and inspectors
- Comfortable with physical work: lifting materials, working on ladders, attics, and crawl spaces in all seasons
- Basic hand tools (we'll provide a starter tool list — nothing exotic)
- Comfortable with technology (smartphone/tablet apps for time tracking and job logs)
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
Nice to have (not required)
- Prior construction, trades, or general labor experience
- Trade school coursework or completed electrical theory classes
- Interest in solar, battery backup, and EV charging — it's a core part of what we do, and we'll train you on it
What we offer
- Competitive pay: $18–$25/hr DOE
- Hands-on training from experienced electricians, including a master electrician founder with decades in the trade
- A stable, family-owned company with a 5.0 reputation, steady residential work, and a clear path from apprentice to journeyman
- 401(k) with company matching
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- Health savings account (HSA)
- Life insurance
- Paid time off and paid holidays
- Professional development assistance (trade school / licensing support)
- Employee referral program

Commercial Electrical Estimator (Commission-Based)
Job type: Full-time · Contract (1099) · Pay: Commission only — uncapped earning potential · Benefits: None — this is a straight-commission 1099 role · Reports to: Operations / Ownership
About us
Three Rivers Electric (TRE) is an established, family-owned and veteran-owned Minnesota electrical contractor with a strong reputation and a real install team behind every job. We're now looking to branch into more commercial work — fast food and restaurant builds, auto service buildings, warehouse and office spaces, industrial lighting, commercial EV charging, service upgrades, and more — and we're building out our commercial estimating and sales capability to make it happen. We're BBB accredited and serve the Twin Cities metro and greater Minnesota.
This is a ground-floor opportunity. We're looking for a self-driven Commercial Electrical Estimator to help lead that expansion — someone who can close the leads we provide and hunt down their own.
The role
This is a commission-based role for someone who is part estimator, part hunter. You'll price commercial electrical construction projects — fast food and restaurant builds, auto service and retail buildings, warehouse and office spaces, industrial lighting packages, commercial EV charging installs, tenant improvements, and service work — from takeoff to proposal, and own the relationship from first contact to signed contract.
We'll feed you qualified leads, but the top performers in this seat won't wait for them. You'll prospect general contractors, developers, and property owners and bring in your own opportunities. Your earnings are uncapped and tied directly to the work you win.
If you want a salaried desk job, this isn't it. If you want to control your own income and build a book of business with a company that can deliver on what you sell, keep reading.
What you'll do
- Estimate commercial electrical construction projects: review plans and specs, perform takeoffs, and price materials, labor, gear, and fixtures
- Bid fast food/restaurant builds, auto service and retail buildings, warehouse and office spaces, industrial lighting, commercial EV charging, tenant improvements, and service upgrades
- Prepare and present competitive, professional bid proposals to general contractors and owners
- Work company-provided leads — follow up fast and convert them into signed projects
- Generate your own leads — prospect and network with GCs, developers, construction managers, and commercial property owners
- Conduct site walks and pre-bid meetings to assess scope, site conditions, and risk
- Read and apply lighting layouts, panel schedules, one-lines, and electrical specs
- Negotiate and close deals, then hand off won jobs to project managers with clear budgets and assumptions
- Maintain a pipeline and follow up consistently to keep deals moving
- Represent TRE professionally as the face of our commercial work
What you bring
- Estimating experience on commercial electrical construction projects (5+ years preferred) — fast food/restaurant, auto service, retail, office, or warehouse/industrial work
- A hunter's mindset — comfortable prospecting, cold outreach, and self-generating business
- Strong knowledge of commercial electrical systems, lighting, distribution gear, and installation methods
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, lighting plans, panel schedules, and specifications
- Solid grasp of labor units and how to build an accurate, competitive bid
- Familiarity with the NEC and Minnesota electrical code requirements
- Comfort with estimating software (e.g., Accubid, McCormick, ConEst, Trimble, or similar) and spreadsheets
- Self-motivated and disciplined — you can manage your own time and pipeline without daily oversight
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- A valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Nice to have
- Existing relationships with Twin Cities-area general contractors, developers, or national retail/restaurant build programs
- Experience bidding multi-site or rollout programs for national brands
- Design-build or design-assist experience
- Commercial EV charging or standby power estimating experience
- Journeyman or master electrician background, or hands-on field experience
- A track record of self-sourced deals in construction or trades
The deal
- Straight commission with uncapped earnings — what you bring in determines what you make
- Company-provided leads to get you started and supplement your own pipeline
- The freedom to build and run your own book of business
- A ground-floor role in our commercial expansion — get in early and grow with it
- An established, family-owned contractor that delivers on what you sell — a real install team behind every bid
- Direct access to ownership and fast decisions
This is a 1099, commission-only position. It does not include a base salary or benefits. Please apply only if a commission-based role is what you're looking for.
