QMerit-certified EV charger installation
Three Rivers Electric is a QMerit-certified EV charger installer through our sister company, iSolar Minnesota. QMerit is the network automakers and utilities point their customers to, so certification means our installs meet the standard your carmaker expects — and we’re set up to handle the manufacturer and utility rebate paperwork that comes with it. We install for every major charger brand, including Tesla, ChargePoint, Wallbox, Emporia, and Grizzl-E.
What a proper Level 2 install involves
A Level 2 charger runs on a dedicated 240-volt circuit and charges several times faster than the cord that came with your car. Doing it right is more than running a wire:
- A real load calculation to confirm your panel can carry a 40–60 amp charging circuit
- The right breaker, wire gauge, and conduit for the distance from panel to parking spot
- A choice between a hardwired unit or a NEMA 14-50 outlet, sized to your charger
- Permit, inspection, and a clean run — garage, driveway, carport, or detached garage
- Optional smart-charger setup so you can schedule off-peak charging and track usage
Rebates that lower the cost
An EV charger is one of the most rebate-friendly upgrades in the house. Depending on your utility you may qualify for the Xcel EV Charger & Wiring Rebate, a Dakota Electric or Connexus rebate (often up to $500 for a smart Level 2 charger), and the federal 30C credit for up to 30% of equipment and installation — though 30C is set to end June 30, 2026. We confirm what you qualify for and handle the paperwork.
Frequently asked questions
Are you certified to install my brand of charger?
Yes. We’re a QMerit-certified installer through our sister company iSolar Minnesota, and we install all major brands including Tesla, ChargePoint, Wallbox, Emporia, and Grizzl-E. If your automaker or utility sent you to QMerit to find an installer, we’re exactly who they’re pointing you to.
Will my electrical panel handle an EV charger?
Often yes, but not always — a Level 2 charger can pull 40 to 60 amps, which is one of the largest loads in a typical home. We run a load calculation to be sure, and if your panel is full or undersized we’ll walk you through options. You can get a quick read first with our free Panel Capacity Check.
Should I get a hardwired charger or a plug-in (NEMA 14-50) outlet?
Both are good options. Hardwiring is cleaner, supports higher continuous output, and is often required for units over 48 amps. A NEMA 14-50 outlet lets you unplug and take the charger with you or swap units later. We’ll recommend the right one based on your charger and how you park.
How long does an EV charger installation take?
Most installs are done in a single visit of a few hours, assuming your panel has capacity and the run to the parking spot is straightforward. Jobs that need a panel upgrade, a long conduit run, or a trench to a detached garage take longer, and we’ll lay that out in the quote.
Are there rebates for installing an EV charger?
Frequently, yes. Xcel Energy and several local utilities offer EV charging rebates, and some require a qualified installer and specific equipment — which is part of why QMerit certification matters. We’ll tell you what’s currently available in your area and help with the paperwork.
Can you install a charger in a detached garage or outside?
Yes. We install in attached and detached garages, carports, and on exterior walls using weather-rated equipment. A detached garage may need a new feeder or a trench, which we’ll scope and price before starting.
